“FROM OUR CHAIRS TO OUR VASES TO THE SOUVENIRS BROUGHT BACK FROM OUR TRAVELS, THE OBJECTS WE CHOOSE TO LIVE WITH AREN’T MERELY NICE TO LOOK AT; THEY CAN SIGNIFICANTLY AFEET THE MOOD OF A ROOM AND ITS OCCUPANTS.” - SIGHT UNSEEN

We are all surrounded by many objects in our homes and even though they are quietly coexisting with us we are reminded by Sight Unseen authors in their How To Live With Objects book that ' our objects radiate meaning into our space, triggering us to remember, feel, or think while giving our guests a tangible sense of our personality'.

Instead of loosing myself in the online world of inspiring designs this Saturday morning, I decided to pick up above mentioned, beautiful green book and read a few pages. In whole honesty I expected to come across carefully curated photos of designers, some unique furniture and read about artist behind them. Little did I know that I will be genuinely moved by the words on these pages that resonated on a quite personal level. In life we often think that we are the only ones having these silly habits or thoughts when in reality we are all sharing similar experiences.

Coaster collecting habit from my travels. They bring so much memories and feelings every time I pick them up.

Authors of the How to Live with Objects, Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer, go about the art of decorating our homes in such familiar and yet profound way. Their words were like a cozy weekend morning that have inspired this post. I’ve been always obsessed with gathering travel tokens and or to getting that mug with the print that I am drawn to, made by a fellow creative in their home studio. I couldn't agree more with Monica and Jill, that these objects we surround ourselves with shouldn't just be sitting there for the sake of it - think about the colours + shapes, the stories, the memories, the feelings they can evoke. It’s like walking into a room full of dear, familiar faces.

My objects bring me joy and calm, excitement and peace - be it a coaster from Amalfi trip, bad Matisse painting I created a while ago that doesn't really fit anywhere or the coffee machine that I dragged all the way from the US because I just had to have it (and totally forgot I cannot use it in Europe), looking around my place I realised I am also collecting stories with the objects I surround myself with.

Surround yourself with Intentional beauty I read somewhere…and that is exactly what decorating a home should feel like!

“OBJECTS ALSO HELP US BUILD CONNECTIONS WITH OTHERS, ACTING AS A CATALYST THAT INSPIRES US TO TELL THEM THOSE STORIES. AND THE MYSTERY OF WANTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT OBJECTS CAN DRAW US IN DEEPER TO PEOPLE OR PLACES. HELPING US GET TO KNOW THEM BETTER” Sight Unseen - How to Live With Objects
